Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly post that is hosted by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes and there is also a Goodreads group where you can find more information.
This weeks topic is Favorite First Sentences. I decided to use books that are currently on my bookshelves this week, mainly because it was easy for me to flip through them, then take pictures of the first line. Some of these books are still on my TBR and are only based on my initial impression of the first line.
Favorite First Sentences:

First up is The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel. In case you can’t quite read that, the first line says; The heat came with the devil. So simple and yet so interesting to me.

Next pick is 14 Days to Die by A. B. Whelan. It says; It was a fine winter day that eighth of February when I decided to kill my husband. Wow, this is coming up in my TBR list soon and after reading that killer opening line I’m so excited to read it!

Shatter Me is my next pick, doesn’t that line make you desperate to know why she’s been locked up for so long?! It says; I’ve been locked up for 264 days.

This Savage Song is my next choice, it says; The night Kate Harker decided to burn down the school chapel, she wasn’t angry or drunk. Hello, attention grabber!

Did you guys really think I was going to make a list and not include It Ends With Us? 😂 It says; As I sit here with one foot one either side of the ledge, looking down from twelve stories above the streets of Boston, I can’t help but think about suicide.
What are your favorite first lines?

Wow! This is a really nice post and I never thought to sit down and read first lines of novels before. I mean, I know that first lines are important, but to sit down and read them… they are powerful and they want you to read the books. Nice choices… well, except for the last one since I try not to read about books about suicide. Also, I found it funny about the day she decided to kill her husband because I have a collaborative story in the works where the women think about killing their husband but then something else happens.

Thank you! When I saw this was the topic for this week I had the same thoughts. For the last book, it actually has nothing to do with suicide, I too assumed the book would be dealing with that topic, I think it was just an attention grabber. That’s too funny! That one is probably my favorite first line.

^_^ It is a good topic. I need to look at the books that I haven’t read on my bookshelf and read the first lines, too.
Oh, good. Not my cup of tea. At the moment, I am into happy endings and happy stories. I don’t want to read anything that may make me feel depressed.
Yap. My friend and I were thinking one night. People fall for all kinds of people and we decided to write about our female leads to fall for serial killers. One would think that there would be lots of gory details, but not really. It’s just about two women who were forced into marriages with bad men and get to finally live after the killers appear in their lives. Interesting twists and very different from our usual writing.

It was fun, you totally should! That book is very heavy though, just not about suicide. That sounds really interesting!

^_^ Totally.
Thanks. At the moment, we are rewriting it… it’s a slow process since we like writing together for fun. https://fitzyandgardeniaspage.wordpress.com/killer-in-my-bed/ It’s just a couple of pages so far. The novel about a sexy vampire has many more pages lol

^_^ and thank you for the follow. That site is just for fun and the stories are not edited so it’s in the first draft mode, however, they are fun to write.
