Review:

After spending years looking for an author who captured the same outrageous energy as Jackie Collins, I finally gave Rebecca Chance a try—and she absolutely delivered the glamorous, scandal filled escapism I was hoping for.

Divas is pure brain candy. It’s sexy, soapy, over the top, and packed with rich people making spectacularly bad decisions. The plot is delightfully ridiculous in all the best ways, filled with betrayals, revenge, juicy reveals, and enough gossip and drama to keep the pages turning. If you’re looking for subtle or realistic, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for entertaining chaos, you’ve come to the right place.

Lola and Evie are both larger than life characters who are far more entertaining than relatable, and watching their unlikely partnership unfold was one of my favorite parts of the book. The pacing stays consistently engaging throughout, even if the novel could have been trimmed a bit, and while the twists aren’t necessarily shocking, they’re exactly the kind of over the top developments this style of story promises.

One important note for modern readers: Divas was published in the late 2000s, and some of the language has not aged well. In particular, there are several outdated and offensive references to transgender people that stood out while reading. It’s something to be aware of before picking it up and did affect my overall rating.

Despite that, this was exactly the kind of escapist summer read I was craving. Think glamorous lifestyles, messy relationships, outrageous scandals, and the literary equivalent of binge watching an addictive soap opera from a pool float.
