Magical Romances, Cozy Fantasies & Mysteries for Your Witchy TBR

There is something about fall that makes me want every book I pick up to contain a small town, a cozy café, a suspicious amount of magic, or preferably all three.
Witchy books are basically made for this time of year. You can go sweet and cozy with magical bakeries and found families, turn up the romance with curses and hexes gone spectacularly wrong, or add a dead body or two and make it a cozy mystery. And because apparently I have no ability to casually make a book list, I ended up with 19 witchy reads spanning romance, cozy fantasy, and mysteries.
This is a discovery list rather than books I’ve personally read and vetted, so consider it a giant witchy menu: pick whatever kind of magic your fall TBR needs.

Witchy Romance & Cozy Fantasy
Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher

A magicless witch. The wolf shifter who broke her heart. A fake relationship required by supernatural law. Obviously nothing could possibly go wrong. This paranormal rom com combines fake dating, second chance chemistry, and plenty of magical chaos.
The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

Nine years after drunkenly cursing the boyfriend who broke her heart, Vivi discovers that maybe the hex wasn’t quite as harmless as she thought. Add his return to Graves Glen, a fall festival, and increasingly disastrous magic and you have one of those books that practically demands to be read in October.
The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling

If The Ex Hex gets you hooked on Graves Glen, this follow up gives you another dose of the magical small town with Gwyn Jones taking center stage. Rival witches, romance, and more supernatural trouble make this an easy continuation of the fall vibes.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

An isolated witch is invited to a mysterious house to teach three young witches how to control their magic—and finds the family and connection she never knew she needed. Cozy fantasy, found family, romance and an enchanted setting make this one basically a warm hug with magic.
Witchful Thinking by Celestine Martin

A magical small town romance with childhood friend chemistry, wishes, and a heroine learning to go after the life she actually wants. This one fits perfectly when you want your witchy reading more charming than spooky.
The League of Gentlewomen Witches by India Holton

Witches, pirates, a magical artifact, enemies to lovers energy and gloriously ridiculous adventure. This is for the reader who likes her magic with a little more chaos.
Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper

Emmy returns to the magical town of Thistle Grove for a spellcasting tournament and winds up helping two women get revenge on the same heartbreaker—while becoming very interested in one of them herself. Magical competition + revenge + sapphic romance = excellent fall behavior.
Witch Please by Ann Aguirre

A commitment phobic witch with tech magic meets an extremely lovable baker who still believes in happily ever after. It has romance, bakery coziness and enough magical family meddling to complicate everything.
Hex Appeal by Kate Johnson

Opposites attract, spells go sideways and a very unusual magical household adds plenty of personality to this paranormal rom com. Pick this when you want your witchy fall reading funny, romantic and a little chaotic.
Love’s a Witch by Tricia O’Malley

A witch returns to a magical Scottish town to break her family’s centuries old curse and promptly clashes with its grumpy mayor. Small town, family curse, grumpy romance and haywire magic? Yes, thank you.
Witcha Gonna Do? by Avery Flynn

A witch born into a wildly powerful magical family has one small problem: she has no powers. Then she accidentally curses her entire family and has to work with the very hot man she can’t stand to fix it. Magical disaster + enemies-to-lovers chemistry = sold.
The Honey Witch by Sydney J. Shields

A young woman becomes the next Honey Witch on a tiny island knowing the position comes with a curse: no one can ever fall in love with her. Naturally, then a grumpy skeptic arrives. This is the dreamy cottagecore choice for readers craving magic, nature and sapphic romance.
The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst

A librarian escapes a revolution with forbidden spellbooks and retreats to her childhood island, where she starts an illegal spellshop and slowly finds community, friendship and love. There are magical books, sweet jam, cinnamon rolls and a sentient spider plant. I feel like that sells itself.
Perfectly Wicked by Lindsay Lovise

A magical Maine apple orchard is struggling, so the family reluctantly allows a famous paranormal investigator to film there—as long as he doesn’t uncover the fact that the magic is actually real. Witchy romance at an apple orchard? Fall has entered the chat.
Witchy Mysteries for When Magic Needs a Dead Body 🔎
One Poison Pie by Lynn Cahoon

Mia Malone starts over in the quirky town of Magic Springs with a new gourmet food business and a little kitchen magic—until her first catering job comes with a dead client. Foodie cozy + witches + murder is very much my preferred equation.
In the Company of Witches by Auralee Wallace

Brynn Warren helps her aunts run their New England B&B, where the Warren witches have quietly used their magic for centuries. Then an unpleasant guest dies and one of Brynn’s aunts becomes the prime suspect. Cozy inn + New England + witches + murder? Extremely fall.
Crime and Poetry by Amanda Flower

Violet returns home to her grandmother and discovers that Charming Books isn’t exactly an ordinary bookstore—the perfect book can literally choose its reader. Unfortunately, there’s also a murder to solve. Magical bookstore mystery. Enough said.
Bait and Witch by Angela M. Sanders

A librarian hiding out in a small Oregon town discovers both a body and the minor detail that she comes from a long line of witches. There is also a Victorian mansion library and a cat who may be her familiar, because cozy mysteries know what we need.
Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Cates

Katie moves to Savannah to work at her aunt and uncle’s bakery, only to learn that her aunt is a witch and those special ingredients are actually part of her spellwork. Then someone is murdered outside the bakery. Magical baking + amateur sleuthing + Savannah is a combination I will accept every time.
Basically, It’s Witching Season
Whether you want your witches falling in love, opening magical businesses, baking enchanted brownies, solving murders or accidentally hexing an ex, there is a little bit of everything here.
I especially love how broad the witchy book category has become. You don’t have to be a fantasy reader to find something that works—there are contemporary rom coms with a magical twist, traditional cozy mysteries, cottagecore fantasies, foodie mysteries and everything in between.
Perfect for Readers Who Love:
