An angsty small town second chance romance with a fierce single mom, complicated history, and plenty of heat.

Release date: October 6, 2026
Publisher: Montlake
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Synopsis:
One car accident. Two shattered lives. Twelve years of silence.
Maverick Harrington was eighteen when prom night stole everything—his best friend’s life and the girl he secretly loved. Unable to face his grief, he chose rage instead, turning his back on Iris Sullivan and letting the whole town do the same. Now he runs Harrington Ranch with an iron will and a heart locked tight.
Iris Sullivan never left Ironwood, even when staying meant raising her son alone in a town that branded her a killer. She’s survived on grit and grace, asking nothing from anyone—especially not from Maverick Harrington.
But when circumstances bring Iris back to the ranch, proximity becomes a reckoning. Old wounds crack open. New feelings ignite. And a twelve-year-old boy with his father’s smile forces Maverick to confront the truth he’s been running from: some lies are told out of love, and some loves are worth forgiving everything for.
Review:
Willow Aster kicked off her new series with a book that had me invested right away. Savage Heart was angstier and more emotional than some of her other books I’ve read, but it still delivered that sexy small town feeling I love. There’s so much history between Iris and Maverick, and their reunion comes with years of hurt that can’t be brushed aside just because the attraction is still there.
The story moves between the present and pivotal moments throughout their past, gradually revealing how they became the people they are now. I really enjoyed that structure because getting to experience those moments made their complicated connection feel that much deeper. This is a romance where the past has a real presence, and I was invested in watching them finally confront it.
Iris was easily my favorite part of this book. She’s a sweet, hardworking single mom, but she’s also fierce, loyal, and incredibly tough. Her relationship with her son, Linc, was so adorable and special, and he completely won me over too. Seeing everything she’s carried made me root hard for her to finally get the love and happiness she deserved. Maverick took a little longer to win me over, and would I have liked him to grovel more? Absolutely. But we got there in the end, and yes, I forgive him. 😉
This was such a strong series opener, with an emotional second chance romance, complicated history, and characters I cared about. If this is what Willow Aster has planned for this new series, I’m going to need book two ASAP.
Perfect for readers who love:
