Synopsis:
Some secrets don’t fade. They hunt.
Expanse, Colorado. Population 313. A town so remote it barely exists on a map—the perfect hiding place for Annie Wolfe and her daughter, Coral. Their cabin is nearly off the grid, and Annie has done everything to keep them safe. Everything. But she knows the people hunting her don’t forget. And they don’t forgive.
Riven knows about survival. She and her family have lived off the land for years, moving like shadows through the wilderness. Now her father has led them to this forgotten town, tracking the man he swears destroyed their lives. The plan is simple: strike fast, take revenge, and disappear.
But when Riven knocks on Annie’s door, their worlds collide. What follows is darker, stranger, and more dangerous than either woman ever imagined—because the hunt isn’t just for vengeance. It’s for the truth. And in Expanse, Colorado, the truth can kill.
Review:
If there’s one thing I love, it’s a thriller that practically demands to be read in one sitting, and When They Find Me by Carter Wilson is exactly that kind of book. Atmospheric, claustrophobic, and absolutely gripping, this is the perfect winter thriller. A remote Colorado town, an isolated cabin, a snowstorm, and dangerous secrets? Sign me up. Wilson creates such an intense sense of isolation and unease that you can practically feel the cold creeping in. The setting is fantastic, and that snowbound atmosphere only makes an already tense story feel even more suffocating.
The pacing here is relentless in the best possible way. The chapters are short, snappy, and incredibly addictive, with so many ending on little cliffhangers that make it nearly impossible to put the book down. Just when something shocking happens or the tension reaches a breaking point, Wilson switches perspectives or takes us into the past, leaving you desperate to find out what happens next. It’s such an effective storytelling technique, and it kept me completely hooked. There’s a constant sense of danger and urgency running through the story, and the momentum never really lets up.
I was also incredibly impressed by the characters, particularly Annie and Riven, whose perspectives drive the story. Both women are fascinating, complex, and compelling in their own ways, and I was equally invested in each of their stories. That’s not always the case for me with dual POV thrillers, but here I genuinely couldn’t choose a favorite. Their individual circumstances, motivations, and secrets add so much depth to the suspense, and watching their worlds collide makes for some seriously gripping reading. I loved how the shifting perspectives gradually reveal more of the bigger picture while constantly raising new questions.
When They Find Me is everything I want from an addictive winter thriller: an atmospheric setting, strong characters, nonstop tension, and a plot that keeps you frantically turning pages. It’s intense, immersive, and wonderfully difficult to walk away from. If you love thrillers that keep you saying “just one more chapter” until suddenly you’ve finished the entire book, this absolutely belongs on your TBR. A fantastic snowbound suspense read!
